Great mag lock and better than the ar mag lock in my opinion.

  2. Rated 5 out of 5

I’ve installed a couple of the mag lock devices on a couple other of my ar-15s but I have to say that this one seems to be the easiest and more permanent. Having to glue the mag release keeps the patriot mag release in place and not able to easily remove. While this sucks for converting back to a normal rifle, in definitely seems to fall in line with the crazy California law here. Very happy just wish I used the PMR on my other rifles.

I’ve heard of the mag release kit before but adding the extended pin makes this the whole package.

i’m a skeptic of everything so that’s the reason for 4 stars. as long as it does what it’s suppose too, i’ll be good.

Product Description

Patriot Mag Release with Extended Takedown Pin

**PLEASE NOTE: The new version of the Patriot Mag Release uses epoxy instead of a locking cap. The epoxy is a more permanent solution but is difficult to remove once installed.**

This Patriot Mag Release comes with an extended takedown pin for quicker ability to drop the magazine. If you live in California and want to avoid registration or converting your AR-15 to “featureless”, the Patriot Mag Release or similar AR-15 magazine lock is a must have.

How the Patriot Mag Release Works

The Patriot Mag Release allows the operator to break open the action in order to insert or remove a magazine. This functionality prevents the ability to remove the magazine when the rifle is assembled and the action is closed. By implementing this type of functionality on your AR-15 lower parts kit you are creating a fixed magazine AR-15. According to the latest interpretation of the new California regulation, this solution allows for avoidance of registration or further modifications to the rifle.

Considered the reloaded version of the original Bullet Button, this AR-15 Patriot Mag Release Kit with Extended Takedown Pin is designed for California residents. Specifically made for AR-15 rifles, the kit and extended takedown pin allow operators easy access to reloading.

What’s Included:

  • Anodized aircraft-grade aluminum magazine release
  • Carbon spring steel wire
  • Extended takedown pin

Quick Installation of the Patriot Mag Release

Estimated Installation Time: 10 minutes
Difficulty Level: Easy

  • To install the Patriot Mag Release, remove any existing button by pressing in on the magazine catch button as far as it can go while loosening the magazine catch.
  • Open the firearm and insert the standard magazine catch into the appropriate location.
  • On the other side, insert the standard magazine catch spring followed by the Patriot Mag Release.
  • Insert the center nut into the hole located in the Patriot Mag Release with the castle portion pointed away from the receiver.
  • Thread the nut so that it’s slightly below the magazine release.
  • Once that is done, insert the #8 screw provided behind the Patriot Mag Release to help raise the release up and away from the upper receiver.
  • Drop the tapered disc into the hole of the Patriot Mag Release and gently hammer it to be slightly below flush with the Patriot Mag Release.
  • Test your rifle to ensure the magazine is now fixed and compliant with California laws.
